Gatka Council

What is Gatka?

  • Gatka is the traditional Sikh martial art, practiced since the time of Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji and Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
  • It combines spiritual discipline, physical fitness, and self-defense skills.

  • It promotes courage, humility, and Seva while preparing Sikhs to defend righteousness.

Purpose of the Gatka Council

  • To preserve and promote the ancient martial tradition of the Khalsa.

  • To train children, youth, and sangat members in physical strength, discipline, and Sikh values.

  • To organize demonstrations, training workshops, and tournaments in the community.

  • To connect martial training with Naam, Bani, and Seva, ensuring spiritual grounding.

Activities of the Gatka Council

  • Regular Training Classes – Basics of footwork, movements, and weapon handling.

  • Shastar Vidya Awareness – Knowledge of traditional Sikh weapons (kirpan, lathi, chakram, dhal, etc.).

  • Physical Fitness – Strength, endurance, and flexibility exercises.

  • Discipline & Team Spirit – Teaching respect, cooperation, and humility.

  • Competitions & Nagar Kirtans – Participation in displays during Gurpurabs, Nagar Kirtans, and samagams.

  • Workshops & Camps – Special summer/winter camps for deeper training.
