About Vidyala/Gurmukhi School

Established in 2019 with just 20 students, Vidyala has grown into a thriving educational community of more than 600 students and 30 dedicated staff members, including teachers, administrative personnel, and pehredaars (volunteers).

Rooted in the belief that Sikhism promotes Punjabi as our mother tongue, Vidyala is deeply committed to preserving and promoting the Punjabi language and culture among the next generation. Punjabi (ਪੰਜਾਬੀ), written in Gurmukhi script, is an Indo-Aryan language spoken by over 100 million people worldwide, making it the 9th most widely spoken language globally (as per 2019 Wikipedia data). It is the native language of the Punjabi people, who share historical and cultural ties with the Punjab region of India and Pakistan. To honour and sustain this heritage, Vidyala proudly runs a free Punjabi School on its premises.

The school operates every Sunday in two batches, offering a nurturing and disciplined environment where children learn not only the Punjabi language — from Year 1 through Year 12 — but also the values, traditions, and teachings that shape their spiritual and cultural identity. Our curriculum follows the Victorian education framework, ensuring that students receive a high-quality education grounded in both academic and cultural excellence.

Beyond language studies, Vidyala incorporates lessons in Sikh core values, Gatka (Sikh martial arts), and Gurbani Santhya, fostering physical discipline, moral strength, and spiritual growth. Every student proudly wears the Vidyala uniform, symbolizing unity, respect, and belonging.

As we continue to grow, Vidyala is expanding its co-curricular and sports programs at the Dashmesh Sports Centre, offering students new opportunities to learn, play, and connect with their peers.

Under the leadership of our Principal, Sukhpal Kaur, Vidyala remains steadfast in its mission to nurture confident, compassionate, and culturally grounded individuals — young leaders who carry forward the language, values, and heritage of the Sikh and Punjabi community with pride.
